Nat Probate Calendar
Westerham Herald 16 May 1925 In London Captain William Wilkie Scotland and Captain Monier Leland Skinner, of Portsmouth, were brought up to answer adjourned summonses charging them with obtaining money by false pretences from the Ministry of Pensions. In addition to disability pay the defendants were given a supplementary grant upon the faith of their representations that they had wives to support. It had since been discovered that each defendant was living with a woman to whom he was not married. The amount of the grant paid to Scotland aggregated £115, and to Skinner £22. Both defendants pleaded guilty. Skinner was stated to be suffering from tuberculosis. Remarking that it was difficult to know how to deal with the defendanst, who had borne good characters, the magistrate remanded them on bail for three months. He added that the sums improbably obtained should be repaid.
