Lord Altrinchham, Kenya's Opportunity, 1955 I had brought out a light open tourer Rolls Royce car because I had learnt from the Duke of Westminster that he found Rolls Royces stood up to the endless trials of desert expeditions better than anything else. I had also brought Davis,a born driver in all conditions, slow procession, speed on bad roads, nullahs full of water or equally defeating sand. He drove that open tourer about Kenya's northern desert with unfailing equanimity and success. He even put up with my driving when I got bored with being driven, but it was hard for him and I remember one appalling occasion when the car skidded in dust, turned completely around and raced back the way we had come. Davis did not turn a hair and only observed that he'd never done a better racing turn on any track. I surrendered the wheel to him submissively as soon as I could stop.
