Women in Kenya 1993 In the war he was sent to Ethiopia and his wife ran his shop at the Golf Club and helped the ladies of the club to entertain the troops. During the school holidays she worked in the children's holiday camp in Jean Anderson's garden on Riverside Drive. She worked for months preparing for the opening of Gertrude's Garden Children's Hospital. In 1957 Alec and Ruby bought Sunrising at Limuru - an old home with a beautiful garden, an orchard, and space for cows and chickens. Ruby took a particular interest in the YWCA Girls' Centre. In 1974 they moved back to Nairobi to a house in Ndemi Road.
