Hut - Dennis Driscoll - 1972 Chemelil Sugar Co. - went to Kakamega
Pre-war volunteer to the Kenya Regiment (KR 711)
Pat Whiteley (daughter): My father turned 18 on 3rd September 1939 when WW2 was declared and, instead of proceeding on to Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa (my grandmother’s wish) he signed up to the Kenya Regiment (his mother was not happy about this!).   He served in N. Africa during WW2.   After the war ended, he obtained a position in the PWD at Kisumu in the Kenya Province of Nyanza.  I was born in Kisumu and so was my younger sister, Eileen.  After the PWD in Kisumu, my father worked for the PWD in Mombasa.   However, he then left Mombasa for Nairobi where he obtained a position as Accountant with Kenya Canners Limited.  It was during this time that his life ended on 2nd July 1951 and is buried in the City Park Cemetery in Nairobi.
