Terence Gavaghan, Of Lions and Dungbeetles, 1999 Peter was tall, dark and well favoured, somewhat cool and aloof, with a supercilious wit accentuated by a slant of the upper lip over slightly prominent teeth. He had the enviable gift of keeping on cordial terms with our masters. He clearly knew his job well and kindly left me with a free rein in Taveta, while calling on me to help with Taita land cases in the hills.
