Murdered by Mau Mau. A fortnight after the Ruck tragedy, Anthony Gibson, a young farm manager was murdered. For 2 hours after the murder his employer signalled for help, firing rounds, sending up Very lights, but no help came.
Genforum Feb 1953 He was the manager of a farm belonging to Captain RS Morice in the Nyeri District. After dining with his employer he returned to his own house about 250 yards away at 8:00 PM and went into his sitting room. The gang entered through the kitchen, killed him with bush knives, caught a watchman who had come to his assistance, beat him until he was unconscious, and pinned him to the ground with spears. About an hour later Captain Morice heard an African calling him. As he and his wife came out of the house, a shotgun was fired at them, the shot grazing Mrs Morice's neck and face. Captain Morice, after firing back, reloaded his shotgun and went to the servants' quarters where he found Mr Gibson's Kipsigis watchman suffering from knife wounds, which Mrs Morice dressed. Then Captain Morice visited Mr Gibson's house and found the body. The house had been ransacked.
