Peter Evans, Law and Disorder, 1956 He had ordered a Somali sergeant to cut off the ear of a prisoner and to make a hole with a bayonet in the ear of another, for a wire to be threaded through it to act as a dog lead so that the prisoner could not run away.Both prisoners died. He said he had threatened to castrate the prisoners and to split up their ears, but he had never had any intention of carrying out the threats. The case raised a Parliamentary storm.
