EAS 5 Oct 1939 Hutchings was from the firm Hutchings & Biemer. He died from pneumonia. He came from North Devon, had a London training with one of the big soft goods firms. He went to South Africa and came up to East Africa with the Rhodesians in the Great War. Served throughout the war in Tanganyika. In 1919 he came to Kenya and joined Jacob's Ltd as manager in the soft goods and furnishings department. About 1925 he left the firm and together with Mr Biemer started the business of Hutchings & Biemer. Was very well known in Nairobi. Amember of the Lodge Scotia and an officer of the Lodge Harmony. On occasion he took the place of Mr George Blowers on the Municipal Council and he was a director of the Building Society up to the town of his death. He had a Masonic funeral in the Forest Road cemetery on Tuesday afternoon.
