O'Brien diary extract (via John Roycroft) We went to Karapana Falls to see the Hall family. Mr Hall has 600 acres, some under coffee, some use for grazing, fruit growing etc. Karapana is nearly 7000 feet above sea level. The land was all bush when he bought it from the government about 25 years ago. A lot of it has been cleared, planted and fenced. He uses the river water for power of her husking and washing his coffee berries and grinding posho for his boys. He is a typical old-fashioned settler of the farmer type, bluff, homely and very hospitable.
