Chandler - Marius Maxwell was a British-born naturalized US citizen and early camera pioneer in East Africa. He was the first to produce true close ups of live game ……… For his 1924 book 'Stalking Big Game with a Camera' Marius Maxwell took his photographs accompanied by white hunter James Hugh Barnes. Marius wished to get close for the camera while Barnes wanted to keep a safe distance from the lion. This led to some interesting and intense conversations. Eventually the photographer  got his way, and the resulting book was a big success. The similarity in names between Marius and Marcuswell Maxwell has led to a lot of confusion.
