Playne - Dr Hodges, who has been Senior Medical Officer (EA & Uganda) since the second day of 1907, was educated at Epsom College, and afterwards at the London Hospital, where he was House Physician and House Surgeon (1889-90), and Resident Accoucheur (1891). In 1892 he took his MD degree at the London University (his other professional qualifications are MRCS and LRCP), and the same year became Assistant Medical Officer Metropolitan Asylums Board, and remained with them until 1898, when he became Medical Officer of the Uganda Protectorate. Dr Hodges received an allowance for extended investigations of sleeping sickness.
