East Africa & Rhodesia - 6/11/52 - Mr John Walter Lenon, who has died in Kenya at the age of 73, went to East Africa 48 years ago to serve in the Administration, but a year later started a coffee farm near Kiambu, and was later one of the early presidents of the Coffee Planters' Association. He was a joint founder of Kiambu church.
Kiambu Scrapbook - Upper Kiambu - If we may include Kiamara under this head, this was one of the earliest farms to be developed and considered then to be one of the best. It was originally owned by Mr John Lenon, who became Secretary of the newly formed Coffee Planters' Union in 1909. When, in 1912, the coffee on certain farms was attacked by hemileia, this was considered  so terrible a scourge, as it had wiped out all the coffee in Ceylon, that the only remedy suggested was to destroy the whole plantation by fire; the resulting panic caused Mr Lenon to sell his farm to Sir Ian Bullough.
