Childhood - Vi Wells née Milner - My parents arrived in British East Africa in 1911, my father taking up employment in the saw-milling industry for C.B. Clutterbuck at Njoro, Elburgon. I was their 4th child (an older brother and sister dying in infancy). My birth certificate gives 'Place of Birth' as '2 miles on the Londiani Road. My earliest memory is of our bungalow on Hurlingham Road, Nairobi. From Nairobi we moved up-country to Rongai where my father worked for General Sladen on Fintry Farm. ….. My father worked for Wilson's Bakery (Eldoret)………We moved back to the Njoro district around 1930 and lived on a pipeline farm, part of Ngata Estates, owned by Lord Egerton of Tatton. … My parents started a bakery business on the farm ……later my parents were in Uganda where my father was employed drilling for water and putting in pumps for the Uganda Administration.
