Extract from article in SITREP XLIII pp 55-59 - 1st Bn Gloucestershire Regiment : Kenya 1955-56. 'On 12th March the tragic deaths occurred of Lts Hazell and Gordon in a car accident. A strong contingent of 'A' Company attended the funeral and every man in the Company mourned the loss of two popular officers. [Ed: 2Lt W.J. Gordon [KR5823] who was attached to the Gloucesters, died in this accident. Rumour has it that it took some time to locate where the car had left the road, and when the car was found in the riverbed, the bodies had been stripped of watches, wallets etc]
