Web DNW - Brendan Thorpe Humphreys entered the Royal Flying Corps in 1916 aged 17 years, but found to be colour blind he was obliged to leave the corps. Joining the Army he became a Private in the Rifle Corps, was wounded in 1918 and invalided to England. On 26 Sept 1941 whilst employed by the East African Power and Lighting Company, he was appointed to the Special Police at Mombasa. Postwar he continued to serve in the Colonial Special Constabulary and attained the rank of Chief Inspector. He and his family left Kenya prior to the country gaining independence.
