Nairobi City Park cemetery - Charles John Irvine, died 10 May 1946 aged 71 - also Ada Madeline Irvine d. 28 Apr 1949 aged 66. Inscription: Charles John Francis Irvine / born 6-8-1874 / died 10.5.1946 / age 71 / his word was his bond / and he trusted in God
Richardson 1929 - "At Athi River Mr & Mrs Irvine and family of four came to greet me. Very kind of them. I don't know how they knew I was on the train. Mr & Mrs Irvine had just finished first and second in the grand aggregate at the local Bisley; a record I should imagine.
Richardson 1929 - "Remi then motored me to see my Bisley friend Captain Irvine at Athi River ……… We found Mr & Mrs Irvine and 4 children at home; stayed to lunch and discussed shooting for both Irvine and his wife (née Miss Sharp) are celebrated rifle shots. Their daughter, aged 12, made a 4" group of 5 shots at 100 yards with one 'wide' and that within 4.5". A record I should think for a 12 year old with a service rifle! Irvine has been trying to resuscitate a derelict tobacco plantation but, I believe, without success. Other people in the Athi River District seem to be equally unsuccessful.
