Philippa Jarman Mother was Born in Dublin on the 9th Oct 1916 as Pamela Constance Grove-White to Colonel Pierce and Mrs Grace Grove-White. The Family home was Kilbyrne, Doneraile, co Cork. Her Father was in the Army, stationed in India so she was brought up by various aunts and uncles. After being schooled in Bedford, England, she trained as a nurse at St Thomas’ Hospital in London and was Commissioned into the QARANC in 1941. She served at Goodwood House, which had been requisitioned as a Hospital, looking after casualties including the crews based at nearby RAF Tangmere. Her next posting was to the Military Base in Mauritius, but en-route there she spent a few months at Oribi Hospital in Pietermaritzburg.
In Mauritius she met a BI Merchant Seaman, Arthur Jarman and three weeks later they were married at Mombasa Cathedral, and honeymooned in Kisumu. Arthur left the sea but spent some time captaining Lake Victoria steamers before their only daughter, Pippa, was born in 1950.
Arthur spent the next 17 years working for the East African Railways & Harbours in Kenya and Tanganyika; during this period Pam worked as Location Nurse in East Africa - (“Beyond Mombasa” and “Killers of Kilimanjaro”) as well as being employed by Shell and the Missions To Seamen.
A short stopover in Blyth, Northumberland preceded 34 years in Dubai where Pam made a name for herself as a great hostess, camping caterer, and crew on Arthur’s keel boats.  She also taught photography in Dubai as well as finding time to do pottery, ikebana and co-write a gardening book. One great credit is that she imported the first bougainvillea to the UAE from Mombasa on the ship “Cementia.”
Arthur was awarded the OBE whilst in Dubai, and he and Pam were closely involved in many royal visits to the UAE.
When Arthur retired in 2002 they emigrated to South Africa joining many of their previous East African friends who had also made South Africa their home. They settled at Woodside Village..Pamela died in Cape Town 5 May 2020.
