mini-Sitrep XXV - died in service in May 1919 at Kilwa, of malaria. In 1911 he was the Nairobi meat inspector and his wife was a midwife. After his death she returned to Australia with their son in 1920.
Bruce Mellor - Migrated to Australia about 1884 - Service Record - Enlisted in Australian Army as Gunner No. 1114 and served full time from 6 Sep 1897 to 15 Feb 1901 - stationed at Queenscliffe, Victoria. Took train to Adelaide and stowed away on German Barque bound for Durban. Worked for his passage over to South Africa. Joined Prince of Wales Light Horse Regiment as Recruiting Sergeant in April 1901. Left P.ofW. Light Horse on 2 Dec 1901 and rejoined 1st Kitchener's Fighting Scouts. Left P.ofW. Lt. Horse as Sgt. Major and joined Kitchener's as Sgt. But became Squadron Sgt. Major in about 3 weeks' time, prior to 3 Feb 1902.
