Rabai - Deaconess Appleby gives a graphic account of the problems of girls' schools. When she arrived at Butere in 1931 the girls' school was an "extra" supervised by the missionary nurse Miss Maud Pethybridge (Bahoya) who already had her hands full with the dispensary.
Foster - Miss M.E. Pettybridge - A CMS Missionary from Australia, who arrived at CMS Maseno Hospital in 1918. In 1948 she moved from Kabete to Nairobi. In 1950s she was housed at Pumwani. She retired in 1957.
Web Maud Pethybridge (1892-1986) was a CMS missionary in Kenya for thirty-nine years. A double-certificated nurse, she believed one of her greatest achievements was the establishment of 'a 23 bed hospital which she ran by herself with the help of African men and women nurses whom she had trained' (Cole; Cole & Pethybridge).
