East Africa & Rhodesia - 18/6/53 - Sir Henry Guy Pilling, KCMG, since 1949 Speaker of the East African Central legislative Assembly, died in Nairobi last week at the age of 67. He entered the Colonial Service as a cadet in Fiji in 1907, and became Secretary to the Western Pacific High Commission 18 years later. After serving as Colonial Secretary in Honduras he went to Kenya as Deputy Chief Secretary in 1934, was Governor of St. Helena from 1938-41 and British Resident in Zanzibar for the next 5 years. He leaves a widow and a daughter. Their only son was killed in action in 1942.
