Ancestry story: The GLADWIN Family were of origin Welsh and settled in South Africa in 1890, in Durban, Natal. In 1895, Charles Gladwin and a group of Settlers initiated the Great Wagon Trek from S. Africe North towards Kenya. In 1897, they reached Rhodesia during what is historically known as the Matabele Rising. This was a British Colony and for safety reasons the Trekkers were put in the British Fort. It was in this Fort that VICTOR CHARLES GLADWIN was born on June 6th 1898 in Salsbury, Rhodesia. The Trek continued and the Trekkers reached Kenya in 1900 and settled there. On September 27th, 1924, Victor Charles Gladwin married Olive Davenport in Nairobi, Kenya.On June 25th, 1931, June Olive Gladwin was born in Nairobi, Kenya. Olive Davenport was of origin British and was born in Warfdale, York, England on January 21 1896 and arrived in Kenya in 1920.
