Macmillan 1930 - F. Buck - Garage Proprietor and Transport - Kitale - Mr F. Buck has the advantage of long practical experience of motor vehicles and is well qualified for the various activities in which he is engaged. Before the Great War he was for many years chauffeur to various notabilities in England including Sir Robert Kindersley and the late Mr George Alexander the celebrated actor and theatrical manager. On the outbreak of the war he joined the Army Motor Transport and in that connection arrived at Mombasa in 1916. After his discharge in 1919 he decided to remain in Kenya. Going to Eldoret he was employed at the Pioneer Hotel Garage which was the first business of the kind at that town. Thereafter he worked with Messrs Thos. J. O'Shea and Co. Ltd. for some time. When the nucleus of Kitale was being formed at Bahati township Mr Buck opened and conducted the first hotel there which is now the Kitale Cinema. When Col. Kirkwood opened the Kitale Hotel in the new town Mr Buck gave up his hotel but continued the garage business which had been attached to it. In 1927 he opened his present premises and has made excellent progress.

Buck - Wine Merchant and Grocer's Liiquor Licence, Bahati Hotel, Kitale - granted for one year provided that the three guest houses and the boys' quarters be replaced by permanent buildings and the two drains from the bathroom be constructed of concrete before 30th June 1927.
