East Africa & Rhodesia - 25/3/54 - Brigadier David Maxwell "Tim" Barchard, who has died at his home in Kenya at the age of 62, went to the Colony from West Africa at the outbreak of the recent war as commander of local forces, and afterwards commanded the 21st East African Brigade. Later he was O.C. Troops in Berbera and Harar. Commissioned in the Royal Welch Fusliiers in 1911, he married 8 years later Miss Ermine Anna Barrington. They have one son in the Army, who served in East Africa during the war. After the war Brigadier and Mrs Barchard settled in Kenya. Their house in Gilgil was burned by Mau Mau gangsters on New Year's Eve.
