East Africa & Rhodesia - 24/5/56 - Mr Leonidas Grammaticas, who has died in Athens at the age of 75, went to Tanganyika Territory (then German East Africa) in 1908, and was a fuel contractor to the railway and engaged in other business and farming until the 1914-18 war. He established the East African Tobacco Co. Ltd., in Tanganyika in 1932, and 12 years later went to Uganda on its behalf. In 1948 he bought a sisal plantation near Kampi ya Moto, Kenya, and registered it as Athinai Sisal Estate, Ltd., and he also formed Solai Sisal Estates Ltd.
