Gazette - 29/11/16 - Obituary - Capt. R.M.T. Rose, 3 KAR, killed in action 18/9/16 in German East Africa. A member of the York & Lancaster Regiment attached to KAR 8/12/11. NFD punitive expedition against the Marehan in 1913/14. A gallant and capable officer popular with his fellow officers and men.
De Ruvigny’s Roll of Honour: only son of Major John Rose Lloyd. Born in Pontefract 4th of August, 1884 he joined the York and Lancaster Militia in 1905, was attached to the King’s African rifles 1911 and served with the East African Expeditionary Force in German East Africa from the beginning of the war was killed in action at Mgeta River on 19 Sept  1916 and buried at Dutumi, Nkessa.  Colonel Fitzgerald Wtote “Yyour son was a very great favour amongst us all and we all miss him very much indeed.  It may be a little consolation to you in your great sorrow to know that the day before he was killed I had brought his name to the notice her of the general officer commanding for the good work he had done on 11 September and during the fight at Nkessa.  I considered your son was one of the most capable officers in the battalion and will be a very great loss, both professionally and socially, to the King’s African Rifles.”
