Gazette 7/11/1917 - Obituary - His Excellency the Acting Governor deeply regrets to announce the death in action of Lieut. N E Lower formerly of the Customs Dept. Mombasa in Farnce on 30/6/1917. Lieut. Lower entered the Imperial Customs Service in 1906 and was seconded for service in the East Africa Protectorate Customs Dept. on 10/10/1912. He was one of the first who volunteered for active service on the outbreak of war doing good work in the Legion of Frontiersmen in the Vanga District. He was a zealous, hard-working and conscientious officer who had the interest of the Dept. at heart and he takes a worthy place among those who have fallen in the service of their country.
