Geni.com  Canon Thomas Francis Cecil Bewes was born at Scotby vicarage, and christened at Scotby church in 1902. he was educated at Allhallows School, Honiton, Devon and at Emmanuel College Cambridge, MA. He was awarded his hockey blue at Cambridge. he was curate at St Leonard's, Exeter 1925-1928, and then went to Kenya where he was a missionary for twenty years. he was archdeacon of Mombasa from 1944 to 1949. He was commissary to the bishop and made an honorary canon of Mombasa in 1949. He spoke Kikuyu, and worked in Kikuyu territory for two years. He was Africa secretary to the Church Missionary Society for many years. He was vicar of Tonbridge for some years. He was sent by the government to Kenya to assist dealing with the Mau Mau problems. He subsequently wrote a book entitled "Kikuyu Conflict'. He retired to Bexhill in 1974.
