Leader 19 July 1913 The death occurred with tragic suddenness on Thursday night of police Constable J. Donovan of the East African Constabulary. The startling discovery was made by a brother policeman, who, on entering his room at the local headquarters at about 10 o’clock found him to be dead. Donovan only arrived here in April last, and although he had been ailing for several days, his condition was never looked upon as serious. At 8 o’clock on the night in question he appeared to be fairly well and the assumption is that he died from heart failure. His death caused quite a painful sensation among members of the force by whom he was much esteemed. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon and was well attended by members of the force.
