Bruce Rooken-Smith Joy attended Nanyuki Primary, Kenya Girls' High School, joined the FANYS where she was a driver at Comd HQ in Nairobi. She worked on the telephone exchange and also drove ambulances. Met and married Frank who was posted to El Obeid, Sudan (Kordafar). Frank served in Khartoum and was Governor of the Blue Nile. Frank and Joy retired to England. He was the author of the Corfield Report (Mau Mau). Farmed in Sussex (White Lodge) which Joy sold when Frank died. She developed her new home, ReachWood , from scratch and it was only just completed when she married Colonel Patricia Talbot-Smith who was in- volved in the planning of the 'D' Day landing.
