Internet: His Grandfather William Tibbles b1834 was born into a poor family but somehow by the age of 37 was an electrical medical practitioner perporting to cure ailments with mild electric currents. Despite having no evidenced medical background he later got involved in producing Vi-Cocoa which described as a revitalizing product. He ended up with a factory employing 550 in Watford. Due to his wealth he then managed to pay for three of his sons to receive a good medical education - John Thomas b1855 became a surgeon, William b1859 became a physician/surgeon and Edwin b1874 was a druggist. Joseph Russell Tibbles was the son of John Thomas Tibbles.
