Info from Peter Madvig (son): My Dad as a young man travelled to Kenya in 1933 for adventure and tried his luck prospecting for gold in Kakamega, initially. He eventually was introduced to farming in the Trans Nzoia, and for a number of years he owned a small estate on the Suam, mainly farming maize. I believe that in May 1939 he joined the Tanganyika Planting Company at Arusha Chini, near Moshi. He was for many years the Cultivation Manager and a co-Director on this sugar estate. He was awarded an honorary MBE in 1953.
