War Service: RFC in WW1 - DFC, Croix de Guerre, Flt. Lieut. & later RAF

General Information:

With the RFC in WW1 and decorated with the DFC and Croix de Guerre, he was shot down over the Dardanelles and taken prisoner by the Turks. His son Robert (called Pak) joined the RAF on leaving school, served in Bomber Command in WW2 on Lancasters. Repatriated to Kenya in early 1947. Worked on drilling rigs before joining the Kenya Police Air Wing and served during Mau Mau Emergency. He was awarded the Queen's Commendation Medal for services in the air, especially in his capacity as 'spotter' for the Lincoln bombers. Tragically he was killed in a plane crash in 1956.
