Cuckoo - Bradney was an old friend and fellow subaltern in S. Africa, also a brother of G.P. Bradney, a Govt. Auditor in Nbi. On retirement from the Army he joined the Reserve of Officers and came to EA on a visit to join his brother. Foran persuaded him to accept this particular appointment, as the chances of early promotion were good. After serving for some time in EA, Bradney was appointed District Superintendent of Police in Northern Nigeria; rejoined the Somerset Light Infantry for the Great War, and was killed in action at the second battle of Ypres.
