Playne - Mr Bremner was born at Rossie, Forgandenny, Perthshire, and educated at Craigmount School, Edinburgh. He came to EA on May 12, 1898, direct from England, to become Assistant Locomotive Superintendent, Uganda Railway. Before coming out he saw 16 years' service in the Locomotive Dept. of the London and North-Western Railway, whose shops he entered as a premium apprentice.

Nicholls - WW1 - Orders were given for all locomotives to be centralised at Nairobi and engineer B.L. Bremner had to find space to stable them. He was obliged to run one train each way on the line every day, and to keep three trains standing ready in steam 24 hours a day. He worked day and night in the railway workshops to build an armoured train, while having his machines commandeered for the making of munitions.
