Kiambu Scrapbook - St. Paul's Church - At first the church had a harmonium; this was replaced in 1929 by an American organ given by his friends in memory of young Brian Hemmerde, who used to play the harmonium until his tragic death in an accident in his stepfather's coffee factory in Kamundu, at the age of twenty one.

St. Paul's Church, Kiambu cemetery - "in loving memory of Brian, only son of E.G. Hemmerde, KC, died as a result of an accident at Kiambu on 27th November 1926 aged 21 years, alas that spring should vanish with the rose that youth's sweet scented manuscript should close, the nightingale that in the branches sang ah whence and whither flown again, who knows? This cross is erected by his mother love suffereth long, God is love.
