Kiambu Scrapbook - Many big sisal plantations were developed at Ruiru just after the first World War, chiefly by Scandinavians. In 1920, 400 acres on Murera were planetd by Mr Johansen (father of Alfred Johansen of Makuyu), who had been in Kenya from very early days and had started his farming career in Upper Kiambu. Murera was then owned by a Mr Tume, but was bought by Mr Kopperud in 1924, when the first crops had already been cut.
