EASC Vol 4 p 535 - ….. a postcard. Written by J.A. Burness, who was a lay missionary with the CMS at Freretown, and sent to CMS House, London. Postmarked Mombasa 22 March 1893 it reads: "I send you this just to let you see the first postcards from Mombasa. They were issued two days ago."

Builder etc. Offered Nov 1883. 6 months' training with Canon Knight, of Derby. 1884, July 19, to Niger Mission to superintend buildings. 1887, May 25 to England. 1888, Jan on his own expressed desire for direct Evangelistic and Spiritual work, transferred  to E. Eq. Africa Mission - Rabai and left Mar 15; 1890, June 25, to England; 1891, Nov 23, to E. Eq. Africa - Rabai. Married Louisa Elizabeth Morris, who died Apr. 29, 1883; (2) 1888, Feb 13, Elizabeth Williams. [Notes by Roy Dunstan] 1895, Feb 7 to UK. 1892, Mar 19 to EA - Changombe; 1901 Mar 14 to UK; 1902 Sept 23 to Sakini opening a new station; 1906 Oct 10 to UK; 1907 Nov 6 to Sakini; 1908 Oct 6 to UK; 1911 Jan 3 resignation on medical grounds accepted. Married (3) 1899 Dec 27 Mrs Emma Gardner, also a CMS Missionary, who died at Kingston on Thames 16/5/24. Died 1935, June 16 at Teddington.
