General Information:

Polnay - in the afternoon Chambers and his wife drove me to the house of a friend called Lady Mary Boyd, an impressive place with a lot of good furniture brought out from England, and there in a way I met my fate. Lady Mary and her husband bred Sealyhams, and as I admired those tough, delightful, furry-white animals ........ bought a puppy - 'Porky' - author's dearest companion in Kenya.
Letter from John Carnegie - 'A very nice, hard working woman who lived near Nanyuki and used to teach children to ride whenever she had time [not true - this was her sister-in-law Madeleine, married to Alistair Boyd, Roddy Boyd's brother.] I used to hear the grown-ups talking indignantly about someone whom I think must have been her husband and who had a drink problem. I gathered that everyone was very sorry for her. ........... I think she had a son called Robin who was a decent chap, very hard working.'
