He had worked almost non-stop during that time, as the fighting there was incessant. No small part of the trouble arising from the opposition of Kabarega, King of Unyoro, whose territory was finally incorporated in the Protectorate in March 1897

Hobley 1892 - Mumias - met Sir Henry C. on his way to the coast ill, having handed over charge of Uganda to Mr F.J. Jackson.
Mills Railway - Colvile, to whom Macdonald was appointed Chief of Staff, never managed to bring Kabarega, that arch guerilla leader, to a pitched battle but did establish a line of forts north westwards from Kampala, through Kabarega's capital at Hoima, to Kibiro on Lake Albert and thereby confined the Omukama to a much depleted realm. These measures were completed by the end of February 1894, when Colvile was able to return to the capital and get on with his primary duty of governing.
