Nellie - (1934) - 'John Henley has recently married Cecil Soames's wife, so C. Soames doesn't think much of Henley's pyrethrum drier. Nor do I really, it is so small and the pyrethrum a bad colour. Henley's place is the most divine I've ever seen, just like the place described by John Buchan in 'The Lodge in the Wilderness', situated at 9,100 ft. on the very edge of the Mau escarpment, with a 2000 ft. drop from the garden. Every bulb and flower does marvellously at the top, and at the bottom of the escarpment is almost tropical forest.'
East Africa & Rhodesia - 18/7/57 - Mr John Hoste Henley, of Molo, eldest son of the late Rev. E.C. Henley, died suddenly in Kenya last week. He had been a director of KCC Ltd., chairman of the Mau, Molo and Turi Settlers' Association, and a member of other committees concerned with farming.
