Foster - Jack Lucey had heard of the Timau area from his son-in-law, Brigadier Channer of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry (DCLI) who had also served in the KAR. While Channer was travelling between Meru - where he was the one but last Garrison Commander - and Nairobi, he had often enjoyed fishing for trout in the mountain streams stocked in the 1920s by Raymond Hook of Nanyuki. Channer's widow, Irene, who was one of the first European children to be born in Kenya (1909), lived on Ol Donyo farm. Her parents, who died in 1946, lie buried on their farm.
