HH&H - 1947 - As is the practice I was shown over the routes [flying] riding behind Captain Harry Allison, a Kenyan, an extremely nice chap and a good pilot. …… Harry told me he was the company's 'whipping boy'. If anything went in the slightest bit wrong he was blamed. He informed me that when not flying he stayed away from the airport and played with his kids, or dug his garden - or read. 'Because of these things I'm thought of as not being interested. Well they're right. I'm not interested in creeping!' Because of his dissatisfaction with his unfair treatment and the lack of company policy and poor pay, he and about 5 others resigned and went to the Belgian Airline, Sabena, in the Congo. After converting to the Douglas DC 4 in Belgium, he and his wife were returning to the Congo as passengers on the same type of aircraft, when on a North African airfield, both were killed. I could never understand the whys and wherefores of the accident.
