H. Oriel Alby (grandson): He lost nearly all his pedigree stock which he took to Kenya. He introduced potato farming to the Bethal district upon his return to South Africa. The Kenya estate had its own siding and he is said to have planted 1 million trees in the Colony. There was a sisal mill on the estate. His wife was well-known for her musicianship and was often asked to play at balls whilst in Kenya.
