Habari 26 - He became a permanent member of the Overseas Civil Service. After Kenya he served in the Solomon Islands, Tristan da Cunha, Turks and Caicos and finally St. Helena where he was Chief Secretary and then acting Governor. His service was marked by his being appointed OBE. .... Fred Gay writes - "Eddie loved a pint, and that is how I first met him many years ago, when he would appear on the scene for a few weeks between stints in far-flung outposts of the diminishing Empire. Eyebrows were sometimes raised at his fondness for the local hostelries, but even here he had a considerable influence for good, for many a young tearaway had profited from a bit of fatherly advice from the corner of the bar."
