General Information:
An Englishman who had gone to the Transvaal with the Wiltshire Yeomanry during the Boer War. At 'Kilima Theki'. although the place was over-run with wild animals of every sort (he states that 14 lions were killed on the farm between Christmas 1908 and March 1909), the farm flourished in stock and crops. Ostriches were his main concern, but cattle and horses did well.

Playne - Kilima Theki - In 1907 Sir Alfred E. Pease, Bart., decided to run an ostrich farm, and for this purpose acquired Kilima Theki, 5000 acres in all, situated 10 miles from Kapiti Plains Station and 8 miles from Machakos. At present there are some 28 grown birds and 36 chicks hatched in 1908. There are many wild ostriches running on the farm, and the eggs are collected for the purpose of hatching in the incubators ....... Lucerne is cultivated to a very large extent for feeding the ostriches ........ A stone house, with iron roof, has been built on the hill (Katanga) overlooking the plains, and a garden is in the course of construction. Kilima Theki is managed by Mr R. Allsopp, who came to BEA in June 1908, from the Transvaal, where he went with the Wiltshire Yeomanry during the Boer War. ...……
