Usher – Colin Watson For highly meritorious service: Mss Usher has from 21 Mar 41 to 6 Apr 41 been responsible for maintaining the 1st line tpt in a high state of efficiency, in spite of the greatest difficulties. During this period of 17 days the bn was moving or fighting the whole time, (except for 3 days of rest at Babile), and covered a distance of more than 1000 miles from Vittorio d’ Africa to Addis Abeba. Although mss Usher invariably arrived last into camp on account of repairing vehicles which had broken down en route, he never rested until he was satisfied that all M.T. was ready for the next day’s journey. Not only did he attend to the vehicles of this unit, but also to those of 10 R.I.M.T., who were temporarily without mechanics and spares. Owing to lack of spares, improvisation was often necessary, but by his tireless and determined efforts mss Usher overcame every difficulty that was practically possible, and his personal effort was an inspiration and stimulus to the remainder of the transport staff. His example was most worthy of praise and recognition.’’ Recommended by Major R.A.F. Hurt for a meritorious service medal.
