General Information:

Ron Morris - Jones was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Pioneer Corps (African Colonial Forces Section) on the 1st June, 1942. The East African Companies of the Pioneer Corps comprised native troops and white officers. Jones was posted to 1807 (East African) Company at El Massara near Cairo as temporary Captain and second in command on 3 August 1944 …………. {other service in Lebanon and Suez} ….
He relinquished his commission on 16th November 1945 and was granted the honorary rank of Major. Major Matheys Jones was awarded the Efficiency Medal with Kenya suspender on 17 January 1950. The award of the Efficiency Medal with 'Kenya' suspender means that he must have served pre-WW2 as an enlisted man in the Kenya Regiment (Territorial Force) which was established on 1st June 1937. It seems probable that he saw active service with the Kenya Regiment before being commissioned into the Pioneer Corps.
