Marion Firn: Sandy Curle joined the King's Africn Rifles in 1923, when he was 23 years old. He found himself in remotest Jubaland in sole charge and the only European for miles. Later he served in Kenya  and undertook numerous military expeditions. In 1935 he became a District Officer in Tanganyika. He built his reputation fighting in Abyssinia, and training a battalion of Abyssinian irregulars in Kenya which then went on to recapture Abyssinia in World War 2.
