General Information:
DSO - Entered the Army 23 May 1900, as a 2nd Lieut. in the 15th Hussars, becoming Lieut. 1 Feb 1903. He served with the New Zealand Forces 5 Aug 1907 to 31 Jan 1909; became Captain 15th Hussars 1 Oct 1908. He served in the European War from 1914 to 1916. He was wounded, twice mentioned in despatches, and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (London Gazette 18/2/15). Capt. Nelson was GSO3, 1st Army, British Armies in France 25 June to 16 Aug 1916; ADC to the Commander-in-Chief, East Indies 1 Oct 1916 to 28 Aug 1917.
