East Africa & Rhodesia - 30/8/56 - Mr James Douglas Michael McKean, OBE, who has died in London at the age of 65, served in East Africa during the 1914-18 war, entered the Colonial Administrative Service in Kenya in 1917, became Acting Provincial Commissioner at the Coast in 1939, and in 1941 joined the Occupied Enemy Territories Administration in Somalia. He retired from the Colonial Service at the end of the war, but was re-employed from 1947 to 1951, for part of the time as District Commissioner, Nairobi.
